Keep Children Entertained Over Christmas
Christmas with children is the most magical time of the year. But when the excitement wears off and the batteries in their favourite toys have run down, what can you do to keep them entertained over Christmas?

Have a day out for less

Keep an eye out for promotions on local and national attractions. Quite often you'll find you can pick up money off vouchers or two for one entries for a range of days out from zoos to theme parks. It's a great way to give the children a surprise treat once the excitement of Christmas Day itself is over.

Walk off your Christmas dinner

Instead of falling asleep in front of the TV, organise some festive walks that all the family can enjoy. It doesn't have to be miles - you could walk ten minutes to the nearest park - but there are plenty of varied walks to be found all over the British Isles. Try the Woodland Trust for ideas on a woodland adventure or visit a local National Trust property and gardens.

Go Carol singing

Of course it doesn't have to be carol singing, but Christmas is a great time to get involved in events in your local community. Check the local papers and websites for details of Christmas Fairs, craft workshops and library events in your area and get involved!

Get Crafty

There are so many bits of leftover wrapping paper, Christmas cards and cardboard boxes hanging around over the holidays there's sure to be something that fires your children's imaginations. If you're short on materials, check out our Christmas crafts section for great ideas and resources your children will love!

Stage your own Bake Off

The Great British Bake Off is as popular as ever, and children love getting messy in the kitchen, so why not encourage your future top bakers to get some practice in over the holidays? There are plenty of simple recipes available on the internet, or why not visit the local library and borrow a children's cookery book? After all, you can always go on a diet in January!

Have a snow day

Even if the weather doesn't oblige, why not have a snow day anyway? You can make snow angels using flour on the floor, or have a snowball fight with cotton wool. Get out on the patio and practice your best skating moves, then end the day with hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows!
