Science Teaching Resources

Primary level science helps children understand something about themselves and the world they live in, which is hugely important in their development. This is why we’ve got resources and science club ideas ready to go for your classroom.

Many benefits to hands-on learning have proven it to be a successful teaching method, especially when teaching science! These benefits include increased engagement, enhanced knowledge retention, and promotion of critical thinking. This is partly because hands-on learning shifts the process from a passive reception of information to an active one. It allows for a deeper understanding of what’s being taught and how to apply their knowledge to other situations.

These create some of the building blocks to the rest of their lives, which is why we’re here as your own personal springboard for science club ideas and the resources you need to make it happen.

Science club ideas: Biology

Children get to explore the wonders of their world, the plant world and the animal kingdom through biology. It allows them to engage with a diverse range of living things and their own local and wider environment. Pupils begin to understand their own bodies and develop their sense of curiosity about the world. So, let’s get to the fun science club ideas.

Get children out of the classroom, rain or shine, to inspect the teeny tiny creatures that live in those outdoor nooks and crannies with this plant and bug hunting kit! Children can get a close look at the tiniest of the animal kingdom with periscopes, magnifiers, nets and bug jars. Go one step further with this 2-way bug viewer that lets children view specimens from four different angles.

For some indoor science club ideas, these magnetic lifecycle kits are available in Frog, Plants and Butterfly. These realistically detailed jumbo magnets illustrate the different life cycles, and each piece is write and wipe for handy labelling, too. And if that wasn’t enough, a handy activity guidebook is included. Or let them see into a whole new world the inner workings of a plant cell with this foam plant cell model that splits in two, one half showing features and labels, the other half featuring letters for assessment opportunities.

Even with these science club ideas, no science classroom is complete without a full-size skeleton! This boney guy can be wheeled on a stand for easy manoeuvring. The main joints move, too, so children can explore how their bendy bits work. And to step up these science club ideas another notch, there’s the human body model, which helps children gain a deeper insight into the workings of the human body. A popular choice for teaching, this model has a step-by-step building guide and features anatomy facts.

Science Club Ideas: Physics

Physics offers a profound understanding of how things work while nurturing critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and curiosity - which is what makes it so wonderful. Here are some science club ideas to empower your children with these skills.

Learning about the solar system sets children’s imagination about the big wide universe alight. This giant magnetic solar system comes with eight planets, a dwarf planet, sun, the Earth’s moon and the asteroid belt magnets, and an activity pack to keep your science club ideas flowing. This blow-up solar system could have pupils recreating the movements of the solar system themselves. Or you could use this motorised solar system as a true science club showstopper - it rotates and revolves. The ultra bright sun creates spectacular results in a darkened room, while the star dome converts the unit into a planetarium.

Introduce pupils to how electricity works with this learning circuits kit that provides them with the tools and instructions they need to experiment firsthand with how electronics work (safely). Creating your own circuit is a no-brainer when it comes to science club ideas. This pack includes a teacher's manual, so you can have fun too.

When your science club is ready to graduate to something more challenging, this electrical digital classpack is a great idea. With simple ‘plug and play’ connections, children can explore and build their own circuits using the digital multimeter to measure their results and understand them.

Another great science club idea is to let your pupils explore light and refraction with this equilateral light prism. Paired with these torches, children can shine a light into the prism and explore reflecting light and how it becomes split into a spectrum. It’s good, curious fun!

Science Club Ideas: Chemistry

Chemistry helps children to develop deductive reasoning skills through scientific methods. These science club ideas can get messy, but that’s the best bit about learning.

This Chem C500 kit combines science and play for great educational fun. It takes you on an introductory tour of chemistry with 28 classic experiments. Children can learn about reactions between solids, liquids, and gases. And with fun, colourful effects from the acids and bases, there’s fizzy and foamy reaction fun to be had with this science club idea. Plus, there’s a manual included, just in case.

Let pupils loose with this erupting volcano model kit that combines biology and chemistry for the ultimate science club idea. Children can get hands-on with this comprehensive model that splits in half to demonstrate a detailed cross-section on one side and a detailed diagram on the other, ideal for building and assessing knowledge. The set includes an easy-to-make lava recipe, an inner tube and removable plastic tray that makes clean up easy - we bet you’re not used to easy clean science club ideas!
